Basingstoke - Old Basing u3a Spanish group. The Spanish Group is in four levels, ranging from complete beginners to upper intermediate level. Spanish Back to Groups Page The Spanish Group is in four levels, ranging from complete beginners to upper intermediate level. Level 1 is for beginners Level 2 is for people who have learnt Spanish for at least one year and will use “Pasos Book 1” as a text book. Level 3 is for people who have either studied “Pasos 1” or a similar text book or have a reasonable knowledge of basic Spanish including the use of past and future tenses. Level 4 is for people, who have been on Level 3 or are at a similar level. Current Activity We run at 4 levels, all every Friday morning, which run in different rooms at St Leonard’s Centre, Oakley, from 9.30 to 12.30. Each group runs for 90 minutes. Level 1 starts at 9:45; Levels 2 and 3 start at 9:30; the advanced group (Level 4) starts at 11:00. The dates are until Easter and then until the end of the school term. Level 1 for beginners in the Wootton Room, and are studying “Exito” Book 1 from the Beginning. Level 2 use “Pasos Book 1” as a text book, starting from about the 6th chapter, meeting in the Malshanger Room. Level 3 , held in theMalshangar Room, continue with the study of “Pasos 2” from the beginning. We are also trying to extend our conversational skills. Level 4 We start the class listening to a record of a song and then do a lighthearted grammar or vocabulary exercise. We then read an article in Spanish and then discuss it We are very flexible and often rely on our more advanced students to help out with both the lower and higher levels. We are a self-help group who appreciate the teaching and other contributions of native and fluent speakers which are offered from time to time. Any help from Spanish speakers is always welcome! There is a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in all the groups. Basingstoke - Old Basing u3a Science and technology book club group. We are a small group with a common interest in Science, Engineering and Technology subjects. Science and technology book club Back to Groups Page * This Group has a waiting list for new members at present * We are a small group with a common interest in Science, Engineering and Technology subjects. The book club was started in 2022, within the Basingstoke U3A Science & Technology group, to offer members a chance to read some of the latest, most topical books on Science, Engineering and Technology. Meeting once a quarter, we review the chosen book in a relaxed, friendly environment over refreshments. We allow three months to read the book before the review, so there is no time pressure, and it allows members to follow up on some of the references for further research. This book club has been successful and we have held some interesting and stimulating reviews on a number of subjects ranging from existential physics, to the science behind the lives of fungi. The group is limited to 16 members, in order to allow every member to provide their input within the time limit of the review. However, if you are interested in this group, you may add your name to the waiting list until a space become available. Other members bring a related selection of poems for reading out and discussion. Recent poets studied include T.S. Eliot and Gerard Manley Hopkins. Rounds one and two, the Connections and Sequences rounds respectively, each comprise six questions. Round three is the two Connecting Walls with up to 10 points available and round four is the Missing Vowels round. Do you think you could beat the other teams? Basingstoke - Old Basing u3a Walking football group. Walking Football is at a more gentle pace, but it’s good exercise, very social and guaranteed to make you smile. Walking football Back to Groups Page Fun and exercise. This very friendly group has male and female members from 60 to 90. It doesn’t matter if you are not David Beckham or Lucy Bronze and haven’t dribbled a ball in years, if at all! Everybody is welcome. Walking Football is at a more gentle pace, but it’s good exercise, very social and guaranteed to make you smile. · We meet on the first and third Thursdays in the month for an hour’s play. · We use a sports hall with 5-a-side goals · We pick the teams on the day, depending on the number of people attending · We do not have people playing for the full hour, but play for 20 minutes or so and then take a break.
