Local and social history

We are a friendly group, who are interested in social history, and  the local history of Basingstoke  and the surrounding area. We have discussions about how our lives have changed, and topics covering a range of local history topics. We have indoor meetings usually from October to May, and outdoor trips usually from June to September.

Members of the group are encouraged (either on their own or in pairs)  to give talks or arrange visits to local places of interest.

Examples of meetings include the following:

  • Winchester Cathedral,

  • Echoes of Basingstoke - memories in our lifetime,

  • Nostalgia,

  • Jane Austen,

  • Delivering essential services to Kempshott,

  • Harold Gillies & Park Prewett Hospital,

  • Local history walks.
