Back to Groups Page Walking Cricket Venue: Everest Community Academy , Oxford Way, Basingstoke RG24 9UP Date/Time: Every 2nd Monday of the month at 17.00 - 18.00 Please note that you need to be a member of Basingstoke-Old Basing u3a to attend these meetings This very friendly group has male and female members and everybody is welcome. Walking Cricket is at a more gentle pace, but it’s good exercise, very social and guaranteed to make you smile. · We meet on the second Monday in the month for an hour’s play. · We use a sports hall and all equipment is provided · We pick the teams on the day, depending on the number of people attending Just put on some comfortable clothing and your trainers and come along. Basingstoke - Old Basing u3a Walks with your camera group. A series of walks of no more than 2-3 miles for those who want to take photographs using all forms of camera. The walks will cover landscapes, buildings, animals and plants etc with a range of both indoor and outdoor locations. Some indoor lighting conditions may not be suitable for some mobile phones and tablets. The walks will complement lessons learnt from the Photography group but are open to all. We usually arrange to meet for lunch before the walk, but this is optional. Bring along your own project to do and if you need help, there is always someone willing to assist or teach new things for knitting, crochet, cross stitch, embroidery etc. The emphasis is on having fun, socialising whilst enjoying our hobbies. We try to have a few workshops each year, e.g. Dorset buttons, Christmas decorations and we have special events. Some of us make things for charities, such as blankets/hats and mittens for neo-natal wards or twiddlemuffs for dementia patients. We also do knitted toys for the shoeboxes sent to deprived children. If you want to get involved, then you can use the time to produce items. The Needle and Pins group runs on the same lines as the Wooly Crafter's group and members can only belong to one of the groups. This is to ensure we have enough places for all members who want to join.

We play pairs matches, with participants randomly drawn into pairs, to play doubles crib in friendly games. The key differences are that all teams will tackle every question, and they may be a little bit easier Back to Groups Page Only Connect Venue: Popley Fields Community Centre Date: 3rd Wednesday of the month Time: 2 - 3pm Please note that you need to be a member of Basingstoke-Old Basing u3a to attend these meetings Only Connect This group is for those that love quizzes and it follows closely the format of the television programme of the same name. The key differences are that all teams will tackle every question, and they may be a little bit easier ... Up to six teams take up the challenge of four rounds. Rounds one and two, the Connections and Sequences rounds respectively, each comprise six questions. Round three is the two Connecting Walls with up to 10 points available and round four is the Missing Vowels round. Do you think you could beat the other teams?

Whilst the presentations will have some technical content, the speakers know that audience members will rarely have specific knowledge of their field, so presentations are never difficult to understand. Hence, you just have to have an interest in science/technology to enjoy them. Recent visits have included: the Diamond Light Source at Harwell the de Havilland Aircraft Museum, near St Albans Brooklands museum National Oceanographic Centre, Southampton We hold meetings in a face-to-face environment at The Roger Morris Centre, Eastrop Way, Basingstoke RG21 4QE where there is free parking across the road from the centre. Our meetings start at 2.00pm, with coffee and tea available from 1.45pm. Also, there is the opportunity to chat with colleagues and the presenter before and after the presentation. If you have a topic that will be of interest to this group, please let one of the group leaders know and we will aim to fit your presentation into the schedule. Members of the S&T group receive an email reminder about a week before each presentation, giving details of the venue, the speaker and the presentation.

We are often on the lookout for group leaders, and if you have knowledge of or interest in a subject that we do not cover, we can help you start a new group.
