The cycling group enjoys social rides at a relatively easy pace, with a break for refreshments and chat. The group normally rides twice a week on different weekdays throughout the year. The routes generally follow quiet roads, cycle paths and occasional trails. To give a variety of ride routes, we take the train or drive to some starting points. The group always waits for stragglers so that no-one is left behind. We usually have two or more longer multi-day trips each year - these have included the Mosel, Rhine and Hunsruck in Germany, across Wales from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and the Viking Trail in Kent. Further information and the group rules are on our website.
During the Winter 2020 lockdown, we held cycling treasure hunts to be completed individually, a photo challenge and we held a Zoom meeting each Friday afternoon to have a catch-up and possibly an online quiz and offline jigsaw puzzles.
Outdoors came in on March 29th, so rides further away commenced, with well attended rides, in groups of six, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Since May 17 we have been able to ride as one group again. We went on a circular tour starting in Oxford, from 15th to 17th June 2021, an unsupported tour carrying our own luggage and staying overnight in hotels.
In addition to our regular cycle rides, we have a World War 1 Battlefield Tour planned, which will go ahead in early September 2021, subject to travel restrictions.
