Weekly: Tuesday 10.00 to 11.45 This group has been running successfully for several years for general conversation in French at individual members homes – but since Covid the group has mainly met via Zoom with occasional face-face meetings. The current intention in the future is to have a mix of Zoom and face-face meetings. There are 10 regulars currently but we would welcome new members who have some knowledge of, and ability with, French. We discuss current affairs linked to Britain and France, activities and holidays, hobbies, home and family life and occasional personal discussions. Note: Each week we have two sessions with a coffee break in between. - Pickleball| Basingstoke - Old Basing u3a
Basingstoke - Old Basing u3a Pickleball group. Pickleball is a relatively new sport in the UK but is quickly becoming very popular. The game, which combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis fosters mobility, fitness and good physical and mental health. Pickleball Back to Groups Page * This Group has a waiting list for new members at present * Pickleball is a relatively new sport in the UK but is quickly becoming very popular. The game, which combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis fosters mobility, fitness and good physical and mental health. The unique feature of the game is that it can be learned in minutes without extensive coaching. However, once you start playing, skills can be improved gradually to a good standard. The rules are designed to limit aggressive play and to encourage placement and tactics above strength and power. This makes the game perfectly suited to any age group, including older players, since it is quick to learn the basics, games last for minutes and skills can be developed over time. We have eight courts at Totally Tennis and play doubles, so up to 32 players at a time. Games are limited to around 10 to 12 minutes, so any “sitting out” is limited. If you come by car, there is free parking but DO NOT park in one of the numbered spaces along one side of the car park - you run the risk of getting a parking ticket. If you want to learn more, go to the internet where you will find many videos and other resources about the game, or follow the link on the right to Totally Tennis. The mantra of pickleball, like u3a, is fun and friendship. Venue: Totally Tennis, War Memorial Park, Crossborough Hill, RG21 4AG Date: Every Thursday Time: 14.00 to 16.00 Please note that you need to be a member of Basingstoke-Old Basing u3a to attend these meetings
