    Basingstoke - Old Basing u3a Cycling group. The cycling group enjoys social rides at a relatively easy pace, with a break for refreshments and chat. The group normally rides twice a week on different weekdays throughout the year. The routes generally follow quiet roads, cycle paths and occasional trails. To give a variety of ride routes, we take the train or drive to some starting points. The group always waits for stragglers so that no-one is left behind. We usually have two or more longer multi-day trips each year - the most recent tours have been to the Ardennes, Brittany, WW1 battlefields, Somerset and the Black Forest. The groups at Chineham and Kempshott are larger with about 30 players and the group at Popley has about 12 players. Refreshments are available at each group for a nominal charge.     Basingstoke - Old Basing u3a Music and words group. Music and Words is for people who love to share their passion for music and the written word.  It is an opportunity for members to take a couple of hours out of their busy lives, to sit, relax and listen to a programme of predominantly music, but may also include poetry or literature, put together by one of our members on a theme of their choice. It is an opportunity for members to take a couple of hours out of their busy lives, to sit, relax and listen to a programme of predominantly music, but may also include poetry or literature, put together by one of our members on a theme of their choice. The music is sometimes familiar, sometimes not so familiar, but always enjoyable and interesting. Members often say they enjoy researching and putting together their programmes and never fail to learn from the experience. Once a year we have an ‘Own Choice’ session. This gives members the opportunity to propose just one piece of music or literature and talk briefly about the reason for their choice. The music tends to be classical, but a variety of genres is welcomed. Support with providing music or presentation technology can always be provided to those who are willing to volunteer to put together a programme for the group. Whilst the presentations will have some technical content, the speakers know that audience members will rarely have specific knowledge of their field, so presentations are never difficult to understand. Hence, you just have to have an interest in science/technology to enjoy them. Recent visits have included: the Diamond Light Source at Harwell the de Havilland Aircraft Museum, near St Albans Brooklands museum National Oceanographic Centre, Southampton We hold meetings in a face-to-face environment at The Roger Morris Centre, Eastrop Way, Basingstoke RG21 4QE where there is free parking across the road from the centre. Our meetings start at 2.00pm, with coffee and tea available from 1.45pm. Members will have access to the driving range and putting green followed by tea and coffee in the club house to discuss the session's highs and lows. The golf course will provide unlimited balls and for those that don't want to bring their own drivers and putters, they will provide clubs. The group does not give members the opportunity to discuss their personal issues, as this is best dealt with by a GP. One of the key philosophies of this group is that we keep our members safe and provide the right information for this open environment.
