On Monday February 13th, we are planning to visit Whitchurch Silk Mill.

For the rest of 2023, we will choose from the following topics:

  • Life at the Vyne

  • Recycling in Victorian times

  • Napoleons tomb at Farnborough Abbey

  • AD 878 exhibition at Winchester

  • The Watercress Line

  • The second half of the historical walk around Basingstoke

  • The Holy Ghost Cemetery

  • The history of the Manydown Estate

  • Basing House

  • Mottisfont

  • Hinton Ampner

Recent Activity

  • In October 2022, each member presented  for 10 minutes on a topic of interest to them

  • In November 2022, Richard led us round the Basingstoke History Trail in the Top of the Town area

  • In December, Ray talked to us about a privateer from the 16th century who had Basingstoke connections, running a public house in the town. We then broke into teams for a 4 round local history quiz on Basingstoke and other parts of Hampshire. The 3 teams were all 1 mark apart at the end so well done everyone!!
