Excursion and holiday details
Visit to Buckingham Palace
Now postponed to 2022.
Visit to Swindon
Pick ups from 9am to travel to Swindon. Please let the Group Convenor know if you are wanting tickets for the Great Western Railway Museum, so that she can prebook and get the best price for our entry. Perhaps you prefer to spend the time in the Shopping Outlet, which has had very good reviews.
Two members, who went to Swindon last time we held the trip, have booked again to go shopping. Last time they went in the museum and found they spent all day in there, because it was so interesting. Others who did their Christmas shopping are delighted to be going back. Cost depends on numbers, but even with the museum we anticipate £25 MAX.
Visit to Royal Albert Hall
Birmingham Royal Ballet and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with a mixture of Russian composers music. Concert ticket is £34 and we have seats in the Arena area. We will sort out travel later, as some like to be free and go by train, others like the ease of coach travel.
The coach fare works out at £15 per person.
The timing will be between 3.30 - 4.00 depending on pick up point. The idea is to get you to Kensington Area where you can choose to be dropped off. The Concert hall is about 10 minutes walk away but there are more choices of eating places, otherwise drop off at the hall and you find something near there. The Group Convenor would also like to know the names of a couple of other people you would like to sit with.
Visit to Musical Museum (near Kew Bridge)
The first of an allocation of 48 seats sold out in under 48 hours. We are being allowed 2 coaches instead of one, so please come and join us.
The plan is to arrive at the museum around 1.30, where we are met with a glass of Prosecco.
We look round this unusual museum seeing their instruments. Then go into the concert hall where we have a Christmas Concert, featuring seasonal tunes from popular films and shows, played on the Mighty Wurlitzer and electronic organ. They expect we will join in some of them. Festive images on the big screen and atmospheric lighting creates an afternoon to remember.
During the interval a seasonal afternoon tea will be served.
There is a Christmas shop with stocking fillers available to purchase.
The cost obviously depends on numbers, but we estimate £40 - £45, to include all transport, and Museum costs, as well as tips. Once we have final numbers, we will email those booked and explain how to pay by bank transfer, cheque or cash. Please do not send deposits as they do make more work. Just accept an email confirmation of your place/s.
Visit to "BEST OF BROADWAY" (a concert at the Royal Albert Hall)
The Royal Philharmonic are once again playing and we have accommodation for one coach full.
Book as soon as possible, as we think this will be a very popular concert. This time the seats are up in the Rausing Circle. It is described in the brochure as "An evening of glitz and glamour, featuring four West End star vocalists and guest presenter Gary WIlmot, With sensational songs from Les Miserables, Mamma Mia, WIcked, Hairspray, We Will Rock you, Jersey Boys, Dreamgirls....and many more." If this is of interest, please send an email off to the Group Convenor, as soon as you can.
Croatia - Autumn 2021
The postponed holiday to Croatia began on 28 September until 5 October 2021. The members left Gatwick at 11.35 and arrived in Ljubljana at 14.55. A week later they will leave from Pula at 14.05 and arrive back in Gatwick at 15.25. Flights are still with Easyjet.
Whitby, North Yorkshire
This is a coach holiday, staying in the Royal Hotel in Whitby, North Yorkshire. The suggested itinerary is for a five-night holiday from 11 to 16 October 2021.
Day 1: Travel north to the Royal Hotel. It has 115 bedrooms with restaurant and bar. There is also a ballroom with a programme of entertainment.
During days 2 - 5 there will be two full day excursions and a half day one included. Suggestions will be accepted as obviously it is up to us. One full day excursion would be to York and a visit to Castle Howard or Eden Camp. The other one would be to Beverley to see the Minster and quaint town.
On day 6 we would leave after breakfast and stop at Hull, near the Museum Quarter. The Group Convenor visited this just over a year ago and was amazed by Hull. It was so attractive and that area has much of interest in it. Then we return to Basingstoke.
At present, there are a few coach seats available, but a shortage of rooms. If those with their names down all return their booking forms we will be a full group. The price per person in a twin room is £479 with a supplement of £85 for sole occupancy rooms. Most deposits and booking forms have now been returned and I look forward to hearing from those of you who have not yet done so.
If you do not already have an email address or phone number for either group leader, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org - thank you.
