Current activities

During the Covid pandemic, our groups made every effort to continue to meet, often using technology to meet online where it was not possible to meet in person.

The Government has now removed all legal restrictions associated with Covid. Our Group Convenors are still considering the safety of their members, as Covid is still present in the community. Some are continuing to encourage the use of face masks, good ventilation and social distancing. Most groups are meeting in person now, some are continuing on Zoom. Some groups are providing recordings of their face-to-face meetings, for those people who are not yet ready to return to them.

Some outdoor groups, such as walking, cycling and netball have continued to meet through the winter. Walking Football resumes on an astroturf pitch on Monday 14th March; croquet starts again on 28th March and rounders will soon be starting, as the better weather and light nights return.

We met up for Monthly Meetings in Queen Mary’s College (QMC), in November 2021, with a New Members’ meeting, plus a highly entertaining talk on Winston Churchill and in December, with a Christmas theme. Both were followed with refreshments, giving members the opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new ones. During the winter, we returned to online meetings on Zoom, with talks on the British Museum, the Chelsea Flower Show and the making of the film War Horse. In April 2022, we return to QMC for a face-to-face meeting and refreshments.

And, as always, our trips and holidays are well in the planning. In 2022,  we have already had trips to see the snowdrops in Welford Park and to the Royal Albert Hall to see the “Best of Broadway”, featuring four West End star vocalists and guest presenter Gary Wilmot. We will be visiting RHS Wisley in May.

Nothing stops our members enjoying themselves! You can join as many groups as you like, until the end of August 2022, for just £25!
