During the current crisis, almost all of our groups are unable to meet in the usual way. However, a number of enterprising groups are continuing to meet or are soon going to restart, often using technology (see below). If you are a member and would like to participate in any of these groups, please contact us.
There are activities that have been arranged on the national website so please have a look there to see what is on offer too.
We will post further notes on this page as matters continue to develop.
The whole of England entered a full lockdown on 5th January 2021. On 8th March, England started on Step One of the Covid Lockdown Exit Road Map and continued to ease the rules on 29th March. On 17th May 2021, England started on Step Three of the Covid Lockdown Exit Road Map. On July 19th, England started on Step Four of the Covid Lockdown Exit Road Map. Following updated government and NHS guidance, the national U3A updated its own advice to local U3A groups after 19th July 2021. Please click here to view this advice (in a new window) and then click on option 4.
On 29th March 2021, the Rule of 6 outdoors came in and the Croquet, Cycling, Walkers and Walking with Cameras groups restarted at the end of March, following this government guideline. On 17th May 2021, the Rule of 6 indoors came in and the Badminton, Line Dancing and Table Tennis groups restarted on 21st May 2021, following this government guideline. (See step 6 of u3a advice for further details). From July 19th, all groups can potentially restart as normal. However, we are waiting to see the impact that the u3a National advice will have on groups meeting normally.
We’re planning two ‘picnics in the park’ for August, in Stratton Park and Popley Fields, for members on either side of town to celebrate meeting up again. So, do come and say hello, if you see us there.
Plans are in place for a Meet and Greet Day on September 8th. Do come and meet some of us in person in Queen Mary’s Hall at QMC, before you decide to join us, with plenty of members around to ask about all the exercise, fun and learning available to you, for just one single annual membership fee.
